Fall Fest & Trivia Night

Please join us on Friday 10/14 from 6pm-8pm for a Fall Fest and Trivia night at the home of Amy and John Ducci.  Tickets available on Anedot at the link below.  We’ll provide snacks, fall-themed cocktails and dessert.  Janet Russo will be our official Trivia Question Master & MC. Trivia teams will be assembled at the event (participation is not required!). Address provided upon RSVP at the link below.  Please RSVP early as space is limited. Wine Tasting & Fundraiser

Please join us at Jerram Winery on Friday, 5/13 from 6pm-8pm for a wine tasting fundraiser hosted by the Harwinton RTC. Tickets are $25 a person and include a wine tasting and light appetizers. Tickets can be purchased online by clicking here, or you may reserve tickets by calling Tammy at 860-689-6200. 

Getting to Know our Local Candidates – David X Sullivan for US Congress

David X. Sullivan is running against incumbent Jahana Hayes to represent the CT congressional 5th District.  The 5th  is composed of  Harwinton along with 40 other towns and cities in Fairfield County, Hartford County, Litchfield County, and New Haven County.

David is a former 30-year career Federal prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of CT.    He has a Facebook page at David X. Sullivan for U.S. Congress, and you can also access his web page at https://davidxsullivan.com.   

David is hard working, honest, and he’s endorsed by the Harwinton Republican Town committee and Mike Criss.  David reached out to Mike after our recent storm on 8/4/20 when many household were without power and had tree damage.  David was there for us and made sure Mike had any additional support he needed.  This demonstrates his commitment to all the towns in his district.  He has been to Harwinton many times and knows our community.

Fall Bonfire on 10/9

 
Come join us on Friday October 9th between 7pm-9pm at the Cheney’s for a Fall bonfire.   
 
We’ll have:
  • smores
  • hot cocoa and coffee
  • a bar serving cocktails by donation
We ask that you make a donation of your choosing to support the Harwinton RTC. 
 
Please bring a lawn chair.  Our rain date for the gathering (if needed) will be Saturday 10/10 from 7pm-9pm.

Need political signs?

Want any political signs to display on your lawn for Republican candidates David X. Sullivan (Congress), John Piscopo (CT House of Reps), Henri Martin (State Senator 31st District) or Kevin Witkos (State Senator 8th District)? Please contact us and we’ll be happy to drop them off to you. We will also have a limited supply of Trump signs within two weeks or less.

Wine Tasting Fundraiser

Please Join us on Friday, February 28th 2020 at Jerram Winery in New Hartford CT for a wine tasting. Light hor d’oeuvre will be served. We will be gathering at 6:30PM and departing at 8:30PM. FOOD Drive on Tuesday Nov 5th at the Harwinton town hall

The Harwinton Republican & Democratic Town Committees are sponsoring a Town Food Pantry Drive for Election Day, Tuesday November 5th. This food drive is being announced on the “Get Out To Vote” Flyers both parties are sending.  We hope that you will be inspired to make your vote count and help a neighbor in need.  Please bring your donations with you when you vote.

Meet the 2019 Slate of Harwinton’s Hometown Team

First Selectman – Michael Criss

Duties: The Annual Report lists a yearlong review of the present first selectman’s activities. Copies available at the library or town hall.

Board of Selectmen – Evan Brunetti

Duties: The basic function of the Board of Selectmen consists of calling town meetings, proposing budgets to Town Meeting, setting public policy, calling elections, licensing, appointing and supervising department heads and employees, setting certain fees, overseeing certain volunteer and appointed bodies, and creating basic regulations. *Source: Town Website

Board of Finance – Tim Bobroske and Charles Casella

Duties include the review and recommendation of the annual
town budget, audits and to act on other fiscal matters pertaining to the
town.  The Board of Finance is also in charge of setting the Mill Rate and funding expenditures.

Board of Assessment Appeals – Terrence Ferrarotti

Board of Assessment Appeals Alternate – Tamara Barry

Duties: real estate and personal property appeals.
Appeals must be in the Assessor’s office by February 20. The
meeting in September is for motor vehicle appeals.

Planning Commission – Christopher Ravlin and William Hall

Duties: Oversees adherence to the Subdivision Regulations.
These Regulations apply to subdivisions and re-subdivisions of land
within the Town of Harwinton.
No subdivision or re-subdivision of land shall be made by any person,
firm or corporation until an application for such subdivision or re-subdivision has been submitted to and approved by the Planning
Commission and a map thereof has been endorsed by the
Commission and approved and filed by the applicant in the office of

Zoning Commission Alternate – Theodore Root and Don Truskauskas

Duties: Oversee new construction or alter current structures on  property within Harwinton. For more information please see the Zoning Regulations.

Zoning Board of Appeals – Theodore Root Jr.

Zoning Board of Appeals Alternate – Pamela Root

The Harwinton Zoning Board of Appeals, among other duties,
holds public hearings to determine and vary the application of the
zoning bylaws, ordinances or regulations in harmony with their generalpurpose and intent and with due consideration for public health, safety, welfare, and property values, where, owing to conditions especially affecting a parcel of land but not affecting generally the district or zone in which it is situated, a literal enforcement of such bylaws, ordinances or regulations would result in exceptional and unusual hardship.  See Town site for more information.

 

Board of Education – John Vecchitto and Scott Ragaglia

The main function of the Board of Education is to adopt goals and policies that meet state requirements and reflect community needs. They also work on the budgeting for the school system in Region 10.
